Looking to have some building work carried out? Heres some tips........
Get someone round, builders can be a great source of knowledge in terms of plans and ideas and tell you what may be possible (or even what might not be). The builder may need some plans or more detail in order to give and estimate and thats where i can help
Contact the council, most local councils (in the Nottingham area) provide pre application advice service where they will assess your proposal and give you some feedback, this may be that your idea does not even require planning permission or that if you do submit an application it may not be supported by the council!!!!
Not sure on how much things cost? websites likes B & Q, Wickes, Screwfix etc have a wide selection of building materials and accessories just a quick look on these sites will show you how much things like bi-fold doors and velux windows etc cost.
Get a tape measure out. Plan your idea out you, may find you don`t have enough room to do what you want.
How big do i need my extension? get some idea of what furniture you are planning to put in it this will help avoid problems fitting in the new sofa once the extension is built!
Things cost money! applying for planning permission currently costs £226 for a domestic extension.
Building regulations can be £450 approx (depending on the size of the proposal) and if you intend to build over a shared drain Severn Trent Water charge £170 (approx) plus the cost of a CCTV drainage survey. This is all before any building work even start!!!!
Want to knock down a wall? you may need to get the advice of a structural engineer as you may need to replace the wall with a structural beam.
